Forelle (German for trout) was a German submarine from the beginning of the 20th century. The vessel was built at the Germania shipyard in Hamburg. The launch of the vessel took place in June 1903. The underwater displacement was 17 tons, and the propulsion was provided by a single electric motor with a capacity of 66 HP. The unit was armed with two torpedo tubes with a caliber of 450 mm.
The Forelle was an experimental ship designed by Raimond L. D'Equevilley-Montjustin. The unit was characterized by a single-hull system and internal tanks: ballast and compensation. The torpedo tubes were placed outside the unit, and due to the small size of the ship, it was not possible to reload them at sea. As Forelle had a very small range, it was supposed to be transported to the place of combat by a surface vessel. Overall, the ship was a fairly successful design, even visited by Emperor Wilhelm II, but did not raise much interest in the German Kaiserliche Marine. Interestingly, however, the unit was purchased in 1904 by Russia. He operated in the period 1904-1910 from the base in Vladivostok. Forelle sank in an accident in 1910.
