New York Central Hudson (abbreviation: NYC Hudson) is a series of steam locomotives (steam locomotives) that were produced between 1927 and 1938. Production took place at the following plants: ALCO (American Locomotive Company) and Lima Locomotive Works. A total of 275 locomotives of this type were built. The locomotive in Whyte notation had a 4-6-4 arrangement. The NYC Hudson steam locomotives were designed on request of the New York Central Railroad as locomotives dedicated to fast and express passenger connections. They were the first to be built and operated in the United States to use the 4-6-4 system in Whyte notation. Hence, it has become customary in the USA to call such a system of wheels "Hudson type". In the course of serial production, three versions of this locomotive were created, with the designations J-1, J-2 and J-3, with the first of these types being the most widely produced. All NYC Hudson locomotives were retired by 1956.
