Trumpeter 37301 JMSDF Oyashio CLass Submarine

Oyashio is the name of a class of Japanese diesel-electric fighter submarines (SS). The first unit of this type entered service in 1998. A total of 11 units of this type have been built, 9 of which are active and 2 are used as school units. The Oyashio-class ship is 81.7 m long, 8.9 m wide, and has a displacement of approximately 4,000 tons. The maximum underwater speed is approximately 20 knots. The ships of this type are equipped with six 533 mm torpedo tubes.

The Oyashio-class ships were developed and put into production in order to replace the Harushio-class ships in the line. Compared to their predecessors, they are much larger, especially when it comes to surface and underwater displacement. The main difference, however, lies in the use of a completely new sonar, which was not mounted in the bow, but on the sides along the entire length of the ship, which significantly improved the ability to detect the enemy. This, in turn, forced the use of a completely new fuselage shape, which is called "leaf coil". Compared to Harushio units, the silencing of new ships has also been significantly improved - especially the powerhouses. Currently, Oyashio-class units are supplemented in line by Soryu-class units.
