LRRP (Long-range reconnaissance patrol) is an abbreviation used to denote a small military detachment carrying out reconnaissance and reconnaissance tasks far behind enemy lines. Reconnaissance tasks were often associated with sabotage activities, which were to make it difficult, in particular, to communicate behind the enemy. Tasks of a similar nature were already carried out during the Second Boer War (1899-1902) and the First World War by British units of Lovat Scouts. During the next world war, LRRP tasks were perfectly performed by Long Range Desert Group or SAS units, but also by some Finnish infantry units. After 1945, units or sub-divisions dedicated to the implementation of the LRRP tasks were established in many armies of the world, and a lot of attention was also paid to them in the American armed forces. This type of infiltration was carried out on a large scale during the Vietnam War (1964 / 1965-1975) by special units of both airborne troops, the US Marine Corps and regular infantry units. Each time, regardless of the type of armed forces, training soldiers for the LRRP tasks has been and is still difficult and rigorous, and most often it focuses on training related to maintaining broadly understood communication, masking and orientation in the field.
