Reggiane Re.2001 is an Italian, single-engine fighter with a low wing structure, full metal structure and classic tail. The prototype flight took place in July 1940. Re.2001 is a far-reaching modification of Re.2000. First of all, the power unit changed - to the Alfa Romeo RA 1000 RC 41-la Monsone in-line engine with 1175HP. The armament has also changed. The first production series, numbering 100 machines, was called Re.2001 Serie I. In 1942, the fighter-bomber version Re.2001 CB was created. A version of the night fighter was also created, designated as Re.2001 CN. Throughout the war, the Regia Aeronautica served 252 copies of this aircraft. Airplanes entered the line from 1941. They took part in the fighting in the Mediterranean, and from 1943 in Sicily, and later in southern and central Italy.
