DISCONTINUED Special Hobby 48005 Sack AS-6 Flying saucer

Arthur Sack AS6 is a German experimental aircraft from the Second World War. The first prototype flew in January 1944, produced in single copies by the Mitteldeutsche Motorwerke company. The AS6 was characterized by a unique wing structure with a rounded structure, which gave the entire silhouette the form of a "saucer". During the first tests, the landing gear turned out to be too weak and too low for the requirements of this aircraft, which resulted in its damage. The problem was also the engine with too low power (Argus AS10C-3 with 240HP). The whole structure was also poorly aerodynamic. The plane never made it past the prototype phase.

The Sack AS-6 was a German wooden-frame prototype aircraft from the Second World War. The flight of the prototype probably took place in the second half of 1944. The machine, however, never entered mass production. The drive was provided by a single Argus As-10C-3 engine with a capacity of 240 HP. The machine did not have a permanent on-board armament. The length of the aircraft was 6.4 meters and the wingspan was 5 meters.

The Sack AS-6 was designed and constructed on the initiative of the German amateur engineer Artur Sack. The machine was characterized by a very rare aerodynamic system, in which the wings and the fuselage formed an almost perfect circle. In the United States, a machine with a similar design has earned the nickname of the "flying pancake". The AS-6 was based on the earlier design of Artur Sack - the AS-5 plane. During the test flights, the machine showed many problems in piloting, it was highly unstable in flight and not very maneuverable. Probably the only copy of this plane was destroyed in 1945 at the airbase in the city of Brandis in Saxony.
