Saxony, after the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation in 1805, was elevated to the rank of a kingdom in the defeat of Austria at Austerlitz and became a close ally of France. It is worth adding that her king was also the Duke of Warsaw from 1807. The main strength of the Saxon army was, of course, the infantry. In 1806, the regiment of this infantry consisted of 10 companies and totaled about 1750 soldiers. During the 1809 campaign, the regiment still consisted of 10 companies, it was also divided into two battalions of 5 companies - one grenadier and four musketeers. A single company had about 180 men, which made the size of the regiment increased. However, in the period 1810-1813, the infantry regiment already had 2 musketeer battalions and 2 grenadier companies with a total strength of approx. 2,100 men. Apart from line infantry, Saxony also deployed light infantry battalions and companies - from 1813 - jegr battalions. In the course of the 1809 campaign, Saxony set up an auxiliary corps of around 20,000 people composed of two divisions. Each division had two infantry brigades, a cavalry brigade and a division artillery - a force of 12 guns per division. However, in the course of the 1812 campaign, it raised a corps consisting of two divisions, but much better saturated with artillery and cavalry.
