Fit to Dragon model of German battleship Scharnhorst (shorter version to use with blastbags contained in set)
The set includes turned brass barrels. It is very simple to use in Your model, and makes it extremely realistic. Simply cut off the original plastic barrel and drill a hole in the remaining part and insert the metal barrel using Cyanoacrylate adhesives.
The 28 cm SK C / 34 is a German 280 mm naval gun from the interwar period and World War II. The weapon was developed in the mid-1930s and entered service in the Kriegsmarine in 1938. It was the main armament of the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau battleships. The total weight of the cannon was approximately 53 tons, and its barrel was 14.5 meters long. The initial velocity of the shells ranged from 420 to 890 m / s, depending on the type of shell used and the angle at which the barrel was raised. The cannon fired projectiles weighing from 300 to 336 kilograms, and its maximum firing range was as much as 40,900 meters, but the effective firing range was lower. The presented gun was a far-reaching modernization of the 28 cm SK C / 28 sea gun used on the so-called pocket battleships of the Deutschland class. Compared to its predecessor, the 28 cm SK C / 34 gun had a longer barrel, but also a significantly higher rate of fire, and the barrel and breech chamber construction allowed for the use of stronger throwing charges, thanks to which the gun had better penetration properties into ship armor. It is assumed that the battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau armed with it could engage in combat with the French Dunkerque battleships without any problems.
The 15 cm SK C / 28 is a German 150 mm naval cannon from the interwar period and World War II. The weapon was developed in the early 1930s and entered service in the Kriegsmarine in 1935. It was an additional armament for the Bismarck and Scharnhorst battleships and the so-called pocket battleships (German Panzerschiffe) of the Deutschland type. It was also to be used on Graf Zeppelin-class aircraft carriers. The Rheinmetall plant was responsible for the development and production of the 15 cm SK C / 28 gun. The total weight of the gun was approx. 9 tons, and its barrel was 7.82 meters long. The initial velocity of the missiles was up to 875 m / s. The cannon fired projectiles weighing 45-47 kilograms, and its maximum firing range was 23,000 meters, while the effective firing range was lower. The maximum theoretical rate of fire for this gun was 8 rounds per minute. However, this was a very difficult result to achieve in combat conditions. The presented cannon was most often mounted in towers Drh LC / 34 with two guns of this type. The presented gun was in fact a smaller and "slimmed" version of the 15 cm SK C / 25 gun used on cruisers of the Königsberg and Leipzig class.
